It has been the most rainy week in Michigan since I can remember. I was beginning to feel as if I hadn’t photographed anything in ages. My camera literally sat in my bag the longest it has since March. I honestly wasn’t sure if we would have sun for this session but low and behold we did and it was beautiful. In fact there were moments we found ourselves taking talking breaks to wait for the sun to do it’s magic so we could begin shooting again.
I’ve known Patrick and his family for many years so it was if we picked up right where we left off the last time we saw each other. I found myself so much in conversation that I had to keep reminding myself to get my photographer eyes on for scoping out locations that would be great. If you were able to check out my insta stories you would have been able to see my “Instagram vs reality” shot. For part of the session we were literally at a park surrounded by roads, cars, and a parking lot. The spot was so perfect that I thought this would be great for getting glowy rustic shots in the trees. If you missed it head to my instagram and click my behind the scenes highlight.
Patrick is the catcher for his baseball team so we started the session looking for ball fields. Since his school was nowhere near where we were headed we decided to look for some closer to the beach. We decided to try out Quincy Park in Holland but when we got there we realized that they lock fields that are not in use. Great for them but bad news for us. We were still able to get some shots and with my 85mm lens I think they turned out well enough under the circumstances. I’m glad we stopped here because the “woodsy” images are some of my favorites from the night.
For the rest of the evening we moved over towards Tunnel Park. It’s a hike up some stairs but I absolutely love the spot with all the beach grass. It really shows off the beauty of Michigan. I consider myself very lucky to live in a beautiful state such as this. After several long months of horrible cold weather in the dread of winter it is erased by it’s beautiful summers especially near the great lakes.
Patrick is one of the many spokesmodels for Kara Hanes Photography this year. Did you know that you can get special perks being on my team. Also for those that book under my spokesmodel referrals you also receive perks as well. Feel free to take a peek after you get a glimpse of this fun session.
