Searching for outdoor wedding venues in Chicago? You’re in the right place. Chicago has some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in the Midwest, from gardens and lakefront parks to riverside estates, and they make a dreamy backdrop for wedding photos.
As a wedding photographer who travels from Michigan to Chicago, I’ve photographed weddings at a couple of these venues and have the rest on my bucket list. Here are my favorite outdoor Chicago wedding venues, what makes each one special, and why each one is so beautiful to photograph.

1. The Morton Arboretum

If you want your wedding surrounded by trees, The Morton Arboretum in Lisle is hard to beat. I’ve photographed a wedding here, and the towering pines made some of my favorite portraits I’ve ever taken. The light filters through the trees so softly that every photo feels calm and timeless.
Couples can choose from several outdoor ceremony sites, including the Gerard T. Donnelly Grand Garden with its central lawn and water features, Thornhill Terrace overlooking the gardens and woods, and the intimate Fragrance Garden.
- Location: Lisle, Illinois, about 25 miles west of downtown Chicago
- Receptions: the open-air Firefly Pavilion (up to about 300 guests), the Ginkgo Room with a glass wall overlooking Meadow Lake, plus the Arbor Room and Founder’s Room
- Photo tip: save time for portraits in the conifer forest. The tall pines are magical in late afternoon light

- Receptions: Tribune Hall overlooking the golf course and Swan Lake, and the tented Woodside Pavilion in warmer months (Le Jardin is reopening in spring 2027)

For a true lakefront wedding, Promontory Point in Hyde Park is a hidden gem. The stone fieldhouse sits right on Lake Michigan, with sweeping views of the skyline across the water.

6. Galleria Marchetti
Galleria Marchetti calls itself a garden oasis in the heart of the city, and it’s a great choice if you want an outdoor feel without leaving downtown. Its courtyard is filled with greenery, and La Pergola has a retractable roof so you can enjoy open air when the weather cooperates.

8. The BRIX on the Fox

The BRIX on the Fox in Carpentersville is a restored brick building along the Fox River, and it’s one of my favorite Chicago-area venues. I photographed Gia and Jeremy’s fall wedding here. The ceremony and reception are indoors, but the green lawns and warm brick outside are perfect for outdoor portraits, especially in the fall.
- Two event spaces: Two-Sixty (up to about 320 guests) and Industria (up to about 200)
- Bring-your-own catering and bar, so you can customize your day
- Photo tip: the big arched windows and brick walls are stunning backdrops for portraits

Garfield Park Conservatory is a stunning option if you love greenery but want a backup plan for Chicago weather. Beyond the glasshouses, the outdoor Artist’s Garden and bluestone terrace are lovely for ceremonies and cocktail hour.

- The Artist’s Garden holds about 100 for a ceremony, and Horticulture Hall works for indoor receptions
- Photo tip: mix lush indoor plant portraits with outdoor garden photos for a lot of variety

10. Lincoln Park Conservatory and Gardens
For a smaller ceremony, the Formal Garden and Grandmother’s Garden outside the Lincoln Park Conservatory are some of the prettiest garden spaces in the city. The Victorian glasshouse and fountains make a classic backdrop.
- Location: Lincoln Park, Chicago
- Best for ceremonies, with a Chicago Park District permit; pair it with a reception venue nearby

Tips for Choosing an Outdoor Wedding Venue in Chicago
- Always have a rain plan. Chicago weather can change fast, so ask every venue about an indoor or tented backup.
- Think about the time of day. Many gardens and parks are most beautiful in late afternoon light, and some spaces are only available in the evening.
- Plan for wind on the lakefront. A secure veil and hairstyle make lakefront portraits much easier.
- Check the season. Many outdoor spaces are only open May through October.
Venue details like capacities and availability change often, so always confirm the latest information directly with each venue.
